compiling problems

Hello all,
I saw Gordon's announcement about the RPM's so I thought I'd try them, but
decided I'd try his source code instead and compile it myself..
I have an older computer (486) so I thought I'd get the source and
change some of the defaults, some for aesthetics and
some for necessity. Mind you, I'm not a programmer, but I do know how to
uncomment things like /* #define blah blah */ and I can sit and watch make
and gcc and pretty much know what it's doing, but I keep getting these
errors when src/configure.c is being compiled:

configure.c: In function `SetTitleText':
configure.c:761: `hircolor' undeclared (first use this function)
configure.c:761: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
configure.c:761: for each function it appears in.)
configure.c:762: `hiscolor' undeclared (first use this function)
configure.c:762: `hincolor' undeclared (first use this function)
configure.c:762: `lorcolor' undeclared (first use this function)
configure.c:762: `loscolor' undeclared (first use this function)

etc. etc. About 2 or 3 screenfuls of this.. If anyone wants to see it I'll
send them the full text later. What is wrong?
My system is a up to date Red Hat 5 installation...
So is this a problem with my libs, etc., or the programmers' fault?
BTW, this is the first time I have tried compiling AS. I have installed
the RPMS before and they worked perfectly. Should I try the latest source
and see if it does the same, also? (sorry, just thought of that as I was
finishing this.. I'll try it later and if it works I'll mail the list
again.)

Thanks very much for any solutions.

James Curbo
