Installation Hell

Ok, I am a new AfterStep user....just joined the list...I read through
the archives and it looks like this problem was never answered...could
someone please help -- because there are no installation help files
anywhere on the net.
After installing th rpm which ent great I am getting this error message
when I type "afterstep"
c: No such file or directory
I dont have Dos...this is a Linux box...period. and I have not edited
any files........
Help please...
