Yes, you have to get used to the new configuration hierarchy, but it's
nice once you are familiar with the setup. I still haven't figured out
some things, but here's parts of what I know so far.
In retrospect, many things are self-explanatory.. but it sure didn't seem
like it when I first installed AS.
You can copy over whatever files you need from /usr/shar/afterstep/
to ~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/ ( if it's your own machine, then you can
make global changes in files under /usr/share/afterstep)
Look in these files:
autoexec - intitialization and restart options. starts
various modules.. (pager, wharf, winlist)
wharf - wharf settings
pager - pager options ( but DeskTopSize & DeskTopScale
must be specified in base.xxxbpp) xxx == color
depth.
winlist - taskbar (like win95) configuration
base.xxxbpp - ModulePath, IconPath, PixmapPath
desktop/ - has subdirs for xpms.
feels/ - AS behaviours like key mappings, window
properties.. etc
looks/ - yep, colors, menu looks.
database - specify style, icons, etc for programs that
you run under AS.
and so on....
Also: man Wharf, man WinList, man afterstep, man Pager, and
New-1.4(??) that comes with the tarball are helpful.
There is a nice setup tutorial that's linked from www.afterstep.org, which
is ALSO helpful.
Let me know if you ever figure out how to change the speed of the
animation for the Wharf. The default is too slow, so I had to turn it
off.
I hope this helps, good luck.
