Need error message help

I have installed AfterStep on my Linux box.
It seems to work fine, except, when ever I
run Netscape 3.01 using AfterStep, I get the
following error message when I close the Xserver :
netscape: can't resolve symbol '__ assert_fail'
This message is written over and over to my error
file log while I have netscape up. My error log becomes
HUGE quickly although Netscape seems to work fine.
I do not have this problem with either open-win or
the original startx managers.
My original Linux installation was using Slackware
with kernel 1.2.13. I have upgraded the kernel only.
I am currently running 2.0.31.
Any help with the above error message would be
greatly appreciated !
