Hi!

I was experimenting here with the AS mailing list archive.
I collected the list for the past five days. It takes up
112 kb for five days. I thought that was a bit too much
of space. If I am to archive the list _and_ provide web access
to it I think of the following scheme:

I archive the list for each month separately

I hypermail the list which will make a nice
indexed set of html pages of it

I tar and gzip the resulted list

and provide access via a CGI script that will
	extract the necessary piece on-the-fly

This way I store 18 kb instead of 112 kb on disk. During
a year that projects into approx. 14 MB of data. I think
I could live with that for a couple of years :)

Of course, I realize that extracting pages is a slow process
but 1) I hope it ain't too slow and 2) I have to be very
disk space conscious since I have to pay for it :(

Would it be better to try and come up with an alternative
solution that would place every mail into the same archive
rather than dividing it by month? What would be the life-span
of such an archive? Eternity? :)

Ok, give me some alternatives now, fellows.

Tigr
