AS 1.5beta4

I'm probably going to be busy all day tomorrow (Saturday) - it's a friend's
birthday.

Hmm. This memory usage thing is weird - here's what top says about AS
1.5beta3pl14 on my machine:

>From Guylhem's buglist:

> o define XLOCALE

I'm not sure how to do this. We are currently using setlocale() to set
the locale requested during configure. Should we be checking for an
environment variable at runtime or something?

I might be interested in doing this one if you don't get around to it
first.

Is this still true? I think this one has been fixed.

Fixed by patch 10.

Patch 15 does this, hopefully. There were lots of changes, and it's hard
to test them all, so please be as hard on this patch as you can!

Nor do I. I've been ignoring APPS, trying to get bugs out of the kernel.
Until the kernel is ready for 1.5, I'm not going to spend any significant
amount of time on APPS (unless there is a dire need to do so).

Heh, this is an amusing bug. :) I'll see about fixing it.

On the subject of beta4. :)

The kernel has improved a great deal since 1.5beta3, and it installs
cleanly on more systems. I think we should release a beta4 now. I
suggest we run the "make indent" just before release - this will give all
of the AS code a consistent style.

Finally, Re: Cristian Gafton's startmenu change:

<soapbox>
I'm not sure I like the idea of forcing menu items on users. It seems to
me that this goes against the philosophy of AS, which has been to provide
(like X itself) a high degree of flexibility without enforcing any
particular policy. I think that the standard AS that we release should
not have a "fixed" menu portion. I do not object, however, to providing
the option, since Red Hat seems to need it so desperately.
